Holly's increasingly erratic behaviour endangers Lister and the ship, and backup computer Queeg 500 is brought in to replace him, relegating Holly to the role of night watchman. Unfortunately, Queeg has peculiarities all of his own, so the crew end up challenging Holly to take him on. Queeg chooses a game of chess and the loser faces deletion.

Holly devises a faster-than-light drive known as the `Holly Hop Drive' which can transport the Red Dwarf anywhere in the universe in a microsecond. As you can expect it all goes wrong and the crew are transported to a parallel universe where they meet duplicates of themselves, only with differences as they soon find out.
